Friedt fires 2-hitter, Knights top Rockville

SOUTHINGTON — Kendra Friedt twirled a two-hit shutout in a 5-0 Southington victory over CCC interdivisional foe Rockville at home Monday afternoon.

Friedt walked one and registered 11 strikeouts.

Lauren Zazzaro (3-for-4, 2 triples, 3 RBI, run) and Kaitlin Paterson (1-for-1, 3 walks, triple, 2 runs) supplied much of the offense for Southington (3-0).

Rachel Dube was busy behind the plate. The senior caught four pop-ups.

Maloney 11, Wethersfield 3: The Spartans exploded for eight runs in the third inning to cruise to a CCC interdivisional victory at the Dunn Sports Complex.

Saimara Cantres (4-for-4, 2 runs), Ariele Virgulto (3-for-5, double, triple, 2 RBI, 2 steals), Gabby Graham (2-for-2, walk, hit by pitch, 3 runs), Chelsea Schott (2-for-4, 2 RBI) and Lindsey Massicotte (2-for-4, RBI) put up big numbers for the Spartans (4-0).

Windsor 5, Platt 1: Amanda Deroy provided the offense, Haley Ruszczyk pitched well in her first start and shortstop Aziah Ortiz made two sparkling defensive plays in the sixth inning but a breakdown handed Windsor (2-0) four unearned runs in the interdivisional CCC tilt.

Deroy started the first inning with a triple and scored on a single by Tori Lillard as Platt (2-1) took the early lead.

Ortiz covered third base on an attempted steal, snagged a nice throw from catcher Ashley Gallo and made the play. She made a backhand stab of a grounder in the hole to execute the third out of the frame.

Cromwell 17, Wilcox Tech 2: Elizabeth Deshaies went 3-for-4 with two triples as the Tribe lost an out-of-conference game on the road.

Skylar Puckett (2-for-4) and Brianna Vece (1-for-1) chipped in for the Indians. Vece (1-1) was tagged with the loss and gave up seven hits, one walk and have four strikeouts. Wilcox Tech (2-2) made 10 errors in the field.

Amity 12, Lyman Hall 2: Kim Petit went 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI for the Trojans in as SCC Housatonic loss in Woodbridge.

LH centerfielder Alyssa McCann made a full-body dive in right-center in the third inning.

Lyman Hall coach Rob Brewster said was the “best catch he has ever seen.”
